History

The Medal for Social Providence was created on December 1, 1922, but was later replaced by the Order of Social Merit in 1936.

It was awarded for social service in provident establishments, savings banks, low-cost housing and numerous other settings of social service. The Bronze Medal was awarded for 5 years of service, the Silver Medal was awarded for an additional 6 years of service after receiving the Bronze Medal, and the Gold Medal was awarded for another 7 years of service after receiving the Silver Medal.

The obverse inscription translates to “Social Providence,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Ministry of Hygiene, Welfare, and Social Providence.”
