History

The Medal of Honour for the Judicial Protection of Youth was created on April 10, 1945, as the Medal for Reformatories. Its current name was established in 1990.

The Medal is awarded in recognition of long service with youth in the judicial system. The Bronze Medal is awarded for 15 years of service, and the Silver and Gold Medals are each awarded for an additional 5 years of service in the previous grade. From 1945-2007 the Medal had only one grade - the Silver Medal that was awarded for at least 15 years of service.

There are two versions of the Medal which vary in inscription. The first version has an obverse inscription that translates to “French Republic,” and a reverse inscription that translates to “Reformatories, Ministry of Justice.” The second version has an obverse inscription that translates to “French Republic,” and a reverse inscription that translates to “Judicial Protection of Youth, Ministry of Justice.”
