History

The Morocco Medal was created on July 22, 1909. It was awarded to all those who participated in the pacification campaigns in Morocco that took place from 1907-1912. This included enlisted men, sailors, native citizens, personnel of the Navy, civil servants and members of life-saving societies. A total of 63200 Medals were awarded.

The Medal was accompanied by any combination of four clasps. The clasps were “CASABLANCA,” “OUDJDA,” ‘HAUT-GUIR,” and “MAROC.” There are also "MAROC 1915" and "MAROC 1925-1926" clasps that may appear on the ribbon, but these were made for the Colonial Medal.

The obverse inscription translates to “French Republic,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Morocco, Honour and Fatherland, Casablanca, Haut-Guir, Oudjda.”
