The Order of National Economy was created on January 6, 1954. It was later replaced by the National Order of Merit on December 2, 1963.

It was awarded for distinguished economic services to France. These services may have come in the form of economic reports or studies, production, or international trade. The Knight was awarded to a person of at least 35 years of age for a minimum of 12 years of service. Knights could be promoted to Officer after 5 years, and Officers could be promoted to Commander after 5 years.

The reverse inscription translates to “Order of the National Economy.”
