History

The Long Service Cross was established by Duke Alexander Carl on March 24, 1847. The cross was awarded to Officers and military physicians of the Officer rank who had completed 50 or 25 years of active military service. Only two 50 year crosses were awarded. The cross did not have to be returned after the recipient's death. In 1863, awarding of the Long Service Cross was ended as Anhalt-Bernburg became reunited with Anhalt.
