Decoration for Female Teachers and Women in Supervisory Positions
Estimated market value:
The Decoration for Female Teachers and Women in Supervisory Positions was instituted by Grand Duchess Louise on December 3, 1880. The Decoration was conferred upon women who rendered long or faithful service within the fields of education or charitable services. It was also conferred upon women who held a supervisory position, such as a matron. Recipients included but were not limited to orphanage directors and workers, medical orderlies, and auxiliary nurses.
The award consists of a Decoration for 40 Years and a Decoration for 25 Years. In addition, there is a version of the award that does not feature the years of service on the obverse. This version may have been introduced to replace the Decoration for 25 Years. It was likely conferred upon individuals who had rendered less than 25 years of service.
It is uncertain how many recipients received the Decoration (without service years). It was likely conferred after 1915.
There is limited information regarding this item.
