History

The Military Long Service Decoration was established by King Ludwig II on March 3, 1865. The decoration was a service award for Generals, Officers, military staff and officials.

In 1872, the award was extended to include civil servants in the military administration. In 1907, the award was expanded once again to include clerks in the military administration. Upon the death of the recipient, the decoration had to be returned.

The I Class Cross was awarded for 40 years of service, whereas the II Class Cross was awarded for 24 years of service.
