A Bavarian Merit Order of the Bavarian Crown c.1830 - Breast Star, hand embroidered in silver wire, fabric and sequins, 94mm, center crown in Gold (11x11mm) with enameled background, encircled with motto in gilded wire on top of multi colored fabric - an exquisitely manufactured star, First Half of Nineteenth Century, nicely toned, in nearly extremely fine condition, and very rare

History


The Order was established at the behest of King Maximilian Joseph I on May 19, 1808 to award citizens of all social classes for exceptional civil merit.

The Order originally consisted of three classes: Grand Cross, Commander and Knight.

The Order entitled candidates to personal or hereditary nobility.
