Physical Description
A straight-armed cross pattée constructed of silver gilt and enamels. The quadrants between the arms bear an enameled wreath. The obverse centre bears a horse and the arms bear the inscription "CARL FRIEDRICH AUGUST WILHELM". The reverse centre bears the date "1809" and the arms bear the inscription "FÜR TREUE UND TAPFERKEIT 1809" (for loyalty and bravery). On a loop for suspension on a blue ribbon.
History
The 1809 Field Service Cross was established by Duke Carl II of Brunswick on October 30, 1824. It was established to honour those who accompanied his father on the march from Bohemia to England. The Cross for Officers features an enameled wreath between the cross arms. The 1809 Field Service Cross for Officers, Type I was awarded from 1824 to 1830.
