Physical Description and Item Details


A circular medal constructed of bronze. The obverse bears the symbolic figure Hammonia with a laurel wreath in the raised left hand, with the inscription "HAMBURG DANKT MDCCCXLIII.VIII MAY". The reverse bears the inscription "V.VIII.MAY MDCCCXLIII".

History


The Firefighter Medal of Honour was founded by the Hamburg City Senate on March 8, 1843. The medal was conferred upon the local firefighters who served in the city during the Great Fire of Hamburg in 1842. The medal is non-wearable.
