Physical Description


A circular medal constructed of silver. The obverse bears the bust of Ernst August with the inscription "ERNST AUGUST V.G.G. KOENIG V. HANNOVER 1837". The reverse bears the inscription "17 MÄRZ 1790 17 MÄRZ 1840" encompassed by a wreath of laurel. On a loop for suspension, with a ribbon of black, yellow and white stripes.

History


The Commemorative Medal for the 50th Military Jubilee of Ernst August was established on March 17, 1840 to celebrate King Ernst August’s 50th year of service with the Hannoverian Army.

The medal was conferred upon Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Enlisted Men who participated in the jubilee celebrations.
