History

The Medal was founded by Elector Wilhelm II and was conferred in recognition of civil merit.

The Medal was conferred upon low-ranking Court and Civil Servants, who rendered long and faithful service within a variety of fields, which benefited the citizens of Hesse-Kassel. It could also be conferred for demonstrating bravery when faced with danger.

The Medal was awarded from 1821 until 1832, when it was replaced by the Civil Merit Cross.
