History

The Long Service Cross was originally founded by Grand Duke Georg on July 1, 1846, and was conferred upon officers and high-ranking military officials who had had long and illustrious military careers.

The Type II crosses were renewed by Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm on March 2, 1869, with new conferral years that were in line with the Prussian long service awards.

The I Class Cross for 21 Years was conferred upon non-commissioned officers.
