The Long Service Cross was founded by Grand Duke George to reward long and meritorious service in the military.

The Type III crosses were renewed on July 25, 1913, and the conferral years were changed for a second time.

The Silver Cross for 15 Years was conferred upon non-commissioned officers with the rank of Sergeant and below.
