The Military Long Service Bars were instituted by Prince Heinrich XIV (Junior Line) and were conferred upon the non-commissioned officers of the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Thüringen Infantry Regiment (No. 96). They were also conferred upon members of the Gendarmerie, a rural police force.

In order to receive a Military Long Service Bars, an individual had to be a citizen of Reuss.

The II Class Bar was conferred for 15 years of meritorious service.

There are known examples of the II Class Bar that are composed of silvered white metal.
