The Military Long Service Bar were instituted by Prince Heinrich XXII (Senior Line) and were conferred upon non-commissioned officers and enlisted men who continued to serve in the armed forces after they were no longer obligated to do so.

To receive a Military Long Service Bar, an individual had to have rendered meritorious service, had to have a history of good conduct, and had to be a citizen of Reuss.

The I Class Bar was awarded for 21 years of service.
