The Service Award for Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers was instituted by Prince Heinrich XXVII of the Reuss Junior Line, and was conferred upon the non-commissioned officers of the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Thüringen Infantry Regiment No. 96. It was also conferred upon the reserve formations of Reuss' armed services.

The III Class Cross was conferred for 9 years of service.
