History

The Carl Eduard War Cross was instituted by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha on July 19, 1916. It was awarded to those soldiers in the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 who had received the Iron Cross 1st Class. The decoration did not have to be returned upon the death of the recipient.

The decoration and the case it came in were supplied by court jewellers Bury & Leonhardt in Hanau.
