Physical Description


A Maltese cross, constructed of gold and enamel. The cross arms are enamelled in white with narrow golden borders. The obverse centre medallion features St. Joachim in painted enamel, wearing a green cape and green cap, as well as a white satchel over the right shoulder and a shepherd’s staff in his left hand. The medallion ring is enamelled in green with the golden inscription ‘NOBILI’ (‘to the noble one’) and narrow golden borders. The reverse is similar, except that the centre medallion features a green enamelled cross pattée with narrow golden borders on a white enamelled background, and the inscription ‘CORDI’ (‘from the heart’) on the medallion ring. On a loop for suspension, on a dark green ribbon.

History


The Order of St. Joachim was instituted by Prince Christian Franz. The purpose of the order was to aid the needy of all religious denominations.
