Physical Description and Item Details


A smooth circular medal with a raised edge, constructed of silver. The medal is surrounded by a frame of chain links. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Grand Duke Carl Alexander with the circular inscription ‘CARL ALEXANDER GROSSHERZOG VON SACHSEN’. At the bottom is the stamp cutter’s signature ‘HELFRICHT F.’. The reverse features a laurel wreath, tied multiple times by a ribbon, with the inscription ‘DEM VERDIENSTE IN DER KUNST’ (‘for merit in the arts’) in the centre. On a loop for suspension, on a red ribbon.
