History

The Military Honour Medal was conferred upon Westphalian military personnel who rendered service during the Napoleonic Campaigns.

The Gold Medals were awarded to officers. Due to the high casualty rate, the Gold Medals are extremely rare and are almost never found in private collections.

The Type III medals were unofficial.

The medals were produced in an oval shape and feature an armoured breastplate flanked by two cannons on the obverse. Beside each cannon, there is a pile of six or seven cannonballs. The officially produced Type II medals feature only six cannon balls. The reverse of the medal features the initials ‘HN’ surmounted by a crown. The initials and crown are surrounded by a laurel wreath.
