History

The Kuban Shield was instituted on September 20th, 1943, and was awarded to military personnel who honourably fought in the Kuban bridgehead from February to October 1943. In order to receive the Badge, an individual had to have taken part in at least one major engagement, or had to have served in the theatre of operations for at least 60 days. If an individual was wounded, the Badge could be awarded for a shorter service time.

The coloured cloth backing of the badge varies according to the military service branch of the recipient. Army/Heer badges were awarded with a green cloth backing. Air Force/Luftwaffe badges were awarded with a blue cloth backing. Panzer Unit badges were awarded with a black cloth backing.
