Constructed of silvered bronze; the obverse depicting a standard police eagle motif; the reverse inscribed with the numeral “8”, circumscribed “Für treue Dienste in der Polizei” (German - For loyal services in the Police); on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a horizontally sewn pinback; in overall extremely fine condition.
The Medal was instituted on the behest of Adolf Hitler on January 30, 1938, and was conferred upon long serving members of the German police force.
The award was designed by Professor Richard Klein.
The award was conferred in three grades to men who served for 8, 18, or 25 years.
All three medals feature the same obverse inscription, which translates to, “For Faithful Service in the Police Force.”
On August 12, 1944, a metal oak leaf cluster with the number “40” was added to the decoration to indicate 40 years of service. It is unknown whether the oak leaves were ever produced.
In order to receive the Medal, an individual had to be an active member of the police force or fill an administrative role within the police service. Time spent in the military could be included in the total time of service needed to receive an award.
The III Class was awarded for 8 years of service.
