History

The HJ badge, known as the HJ diamond because of its shape, was the official and most notable symbol of the organisation. As a head insignia, it was worn on almost every piece of headgear.

The HJ diamond as a piece of headgear insignia was established on September 8, 1933. For the Naval HJ caps it was introduced in 1934.

The HJ diamond was either made of enamelled metal or cloth. This varied a lot, depending on the date, the cap, or the rank. For details, see the chapter about HJ headgear.
