Constructed of black wool, the obverse bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey and golden-yellow edelweiss within an oval border, unmarked, measuring 56 mm (w) x 75 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
In October of 1943, Waffen-SS Mountain Troops were authorised to wear both the cap Edelweiss and the sleeve Edelweiss insignia. The sleeve insignia is in the form of a black cloth oval with a silver-grey Edelweiss flower with a yellow centre inside a silver-grey border.
The insignia was worn on the upper right sleeve.
