The waterproof motorcycle coat was originally worn by Army dispatch riders but was eventually issued to Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, and Police personnel.
The double-breasted coat is produced out of grey-green rubberized cotton twill, has watertight seams, and large pockets. The reverse of the coat features a protective storm flap that rests on the shoulders. There are two buttoned storm pockets on the front of the coat and a waist belt with a buckle. The coat sleeve wrists are adjustable to prevent leakage.
The coat is long and loose-fitting. The wearer could divide the skirt and button it around their legs, which made riding a motorcycle easier.
Early examples of the coat were produced with a dark-green cloth collar, but after 1940 the collars were made from the rubberized material.
Many Officers privately purchased motorcycle coats, because they provided superior protection against the elements.
