History

The Membership Badge of the Colonial Veterans Association was instituted circa 1900 and was issued from 1900 to 1945 to all the members of the association as well as to the members of the German Colonial Veterans Union (Deutscher Kolonialkriegerbund, DKKB).

The badge is shaped like a “Südwester” or “Schutztruppenhut” – the most famous headgear of the colonial guard, the "Schutztruppe".

The badge is very small but also shows a lot of details, e.g. the round cockade and the hatband ribbon.

The badge exists in two versions. Version 1 has a more realistic shape than Version 2. Version 2 has a much bigger cockade.

The badge is attached by a long vertical pin soldered to a reverse.
