History

The Mackensen Honour Cross was instituted in 1918 by the Military Union of German Cavalry, a post-war union founded under the patronage of Generalfeldmarschall Anton Ludwig August von Mackensen.

The I Class badge was conferred upon individuals who served in the Germany Cavalry during the First World War and were already a recipient of the Iron Cross.

These badges were awarded between 1928 and 1933.
