The Deeds of Bravery Medal is awarded by the Deeds of Bravery Council to Irish citizens in recognition of gallantry in the effort to save a life. This Medal - and the Council - were instated as part of the Deeds of Bravery Act, 1947.

The I Class Medal features an inscription that translates to "The Council for Deeds of Bravery," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Awarded by the Council for Deeds of Bravery to.”

To date, only 11 I Class Medals have been awarded.
