It is uncertain if the Service Medal for Local Defence Forces and Naval Reserve has been awarded since 2005, or if a replacement medal was established. More research is necessary.

History

The Service Medal for the Local Defence Forces and Naval Reserve was awarded to members of the Local Defence Forces (Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil) and the Naval Reserve (Slua Muiri) in recognition of long and faithful service. These forces were reorganised into the Reserve Defence Forces in 2005.

The Bronze Medal (for 21 Years) is awarded with two bar clasps. It features an obverse inscription that translates to “Active is the Foundation of Freedom,” and a reverse inscription that translates to “For Good Service.” The reverse also has initials that stand for “Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil” (Local Defence Forces) and “Slua Muiri” (Naval Reserve). The suspension has an additional inscription that translates to “Service.” It was officially issued unnamed, but some examples may have been privately engraved with the recipient’s name.
