History

The Medal for Labour was established by Ordinance on December 6, 1924. It is awarded to Monegasque citizens in recognition of long and faithful service with the same employer, in either the public or private sector.

The I Class Medal may also be awarded to recipients of the II Class Medal after an additional 3 years of service. All service requirements can be waived, but only under exceptional circumstances.

There are two versions of the I Class Medal that differ in engraving and inscription. The first version was awarded from 1924-2007 and features the portrait of Louis II, while the second version has been awarded since 2007 and features the portrait of Albert II. Both versions feature a reverse inscription that translates to "Principality of Monaco, Honour, Labour."
