History

The Den Briel Medal was established by William VI, Prince of Orange-Nassau, and future King William I, in 1814. It was awarded to Dutch military personnel in recognition of courageous actions during the liberation of Den Briel (also known as Brill, or Brielle) in the same year.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "For Courage and Patriotism." A total of 16 were awarded.
