The Resistance Cross (1940-1945) was established by Royal Decree in 1946. It was awarded to Dutch military personnel and civilians in recognition of meritorious service in the resistance against German and Japanese occupations in the Second World War. It could also be awarded posthumously.
There are two versions of the Bronze Cross that differ in size. The larger version was awarded posthumously 95 times to next-of-kin. The smaller version was only awarded once to a severely injured individual who took part in the resistance. Both feature an obverse depicting St. George slaying a dragon, along with an inscription that translates to "Faith Until Death."
