The Flood Relief Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1855. It was awarded in recognition of bravery and self-sacrifice during emergency flood situations. A silver or bronze clasp was worn by recipients who received more than one award.
There are five versions of the Bronze Medal that differ in the year inscribed on the reverse. Each has an obverse inscription that translates to "William III, King of the Netherlands, Grand Duke of Luxembourg," with a reverse inscription that translates to "Flood of [year]."
There may be additional versions that vary in size.
