The Medal is conferred upon Norwegian Civil Defence personnel who have rendered six continuous months of service abroad.
For additional long service, star shaped clasps may be added to the recipients ribbon. An individual can receive maximum of three star clasps.
After a recipient has rendered more than 60 months of service to the Civil Defence Force, a clasp, shaped as a laurel branch, may be added to the ribbon.
