History

This medal was awarded to an individual who "risked their own life to save another".

The 1834 version does not have an oak wreath on the reverse, and the 1846 version features a mustached Tsar.

If a recipient already has been awarded the medal but does another deed to save another life they may receive a bow to the ribbon.

The obverse inscription translates to "BY THE GRACE OF GOD NICHOLAS I EMPEROR AND AUTOCRAT OF ALL RUSSIAS" and the reverse translates to "FOR LIFE SAVING".
