History

The Candahar, Ghuzenee, Cabul Medal was established by General Order in 1842. The Medal was awarded to Indian and British Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and enlisted men who participated in a series of campaigns in the First Afghan War.

The first version was awarded to those who served in the Candahar region, the second was awarded to those who participated in the campaign that lead to the capture of Ghuznee, the third was awarded to those who participated in the two aforementioned campaigns, and the fourth was awarded to those who served in the campaign that lead to the occupation of Kabul.

The Medal is believed to have been issued named, although unnamed examples exist.

There may be additional versions of the Medal that differ in size.
