History

The Waterloo Medal was established by General Order on July 29, 1815, following the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. It was the first British campaign medal to be conferred upon every member of the British Army who served in the battle, regardless of rank. The Medal was also awarded to members of the King's German Legion and members of the British Army who served in the Battle of Ligny on June 16, 1815, and the Battle of Quatre Bras on June 16, 1815.
