The Iraq Medal was instituted on February 24, 2004, as an award for service in the operation TELIC (the Iraq War). The Silver Medal is awarded to all British, Commonwealth, and foreign military and civilian personnel who served on or in support of the operations for the liberation of Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in Kuwait and Iraq since January 20, 2003. The Medal is awarded for thirty continuous, or forty-five aggregated, days of service. Service cut short as result of death or disability endured whilst on active duty, or service recognized by the award of another British honour qualifies for the award of the Iraq Medal.
The clasp "19 MAR TO 28 APR 2003" is awarded to personnel who took part in combat. A silver rosette is worn on the ribbon when the ribbon is worn alone.
A variety of different naming styles were used.
