History


The Sudan Defence Force General Service Medal was established by the recommendation of the Commander of the Sudan Defence Force, Kaid el' Amm, in November 1933. The Silver Medal is awarded to members of the Sudan Defence Force, Police and others who served in operations in Sudan since 1933 that warrant recognition. The Medal was also awarded in recognition of action against Italian forces in Southern Sudan between 1940 and 1941.

The Medal features an obverse Arabic inscription of the Governor- General's seal and a reverse Arabic inscription that translates to "The Sudan".
