The Ushakov Medal was established by the Russian government in 1944 but authorized for wear by British and Commonwealth troops by Queen Elizabeth II in 2013. The Silver Medal was initially awarded for acts of heroism during the Second World War, but was later extended to recognize peacetime service and acts by foreign nationals, and is also awarded to Allied Forces who served on Arctic convoys during the Second World War.
