History

The Jubilee Medal 1977 was instituted by Queen Elizabeth II by Royal Warrant to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne. The Silver Medal was presented to members of the armed forces, crown services, and personnel involved in the industry, trade, local services, voluntary services, the arts, entertainment, and sports. Approximately 30000 Medals were issued to United Kingdom recipients.

There are 2 versions of the Medal which differ by reverse design. While the general version of the Medal features the reverse inscription "THE 25TH YEAR OF THE REIGN OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II 6 FEBRUARY 1977" surrounded by a wreath, a distinct version was awarded to Canadian recipients. The Canadian version features a depiction of a maple leaf on the reverse and the inscription "CANADA 1952 EIIR 1977." It is estimated that 30000 Canadian versions of the Medal were issued.
