History

The Royal Visit to South Africa 1947 Medal was issued in commemoration of the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to South Africa in 1947. It is believed that the Silver Medal was presented to selected dignitaries during the tour.

The Medal is worn around the neck from a yellow ribbon.

There are multiple versions of the Medal which differ by size and reverse design and inscription. Some versions of the Medal feature an African inscription on the reverse. It is uncertain why the Medal was issued in different sizes.
