History

The Ceylon Police Medal for Merit was established by King George VI by Royal Warrant on June 19, 1950, and replaced the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service. The Silver Medal rewarded valuable service such as devotion to duty. The Medal was made obsolete in 1972 when Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) became a republic.

The award had an annual contingent of 10 members.

There are 2 versions of the Medal which vary according to the obverse effigy of the ruling monarch.
