History


The Indian Army Meritorious Service Medal (1848) was instituted by the Indian Government by General Order on May 20, 1848. The Silver Medal was awarded to forces of the Honourable East India Company and the Indian Armed Services.

The Medal was issued with an annuity up to £20 ($27) to European sergeants to reward meritorious service.

The Medal was discontinued in 1873.
