The Royal Hong Kong Commemorative Medal was approved by the Commissioner of the Royal Hong Kong Police and the Hong Kong government and instituted by the Queen Elizebeth II in 1996. The Silver Medal was awarded members of the Hong Kong Police who served between 1844 and 1969 and to members of the Royal Hong Kong Police who served between 1969 and 1997. Recipients of the Medal were required to privately purchase the award for approximately $110.
