History

The South African Railways and Harbour Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was established in 1934 and awarded to members of the South African Railways and Harbour Police for 18 years of exemplary service. The Silver Medal was superseded in 1960 by the Railways Police Good Service Medal.

A clasp inscribed "MERIT-VERDIENSTE" was awarded to denote acts of gallantry or meritorious service recognized by the award of the Medal.

There are 2 versions of the Medal which vary by the obverse inscription.
