The Zimbabwe Independence Medal 1980 was instituted to mark Zimbabwe's independence from the UK on April 18, 1980. The Medal was awarded to individuals or groups nominated by the Prime Minister in recognition of service in the Independence Day celebrations. The Medal is awarded in a Silver and a Bronze class.

The award of a Silver Medal is denoted by a silver rosette.

The Medal is numbered on the rim.
