In silvered stamped steel, unmarked reverse, measuring 48.7 mm x 63.5 mm, lightly worn, extremely fine. This particular buckle is illustrated on page 99 of "Belt Buckles & Brocades of the Third Reich, Revised Edition" by John R. Angolia and came from his personal collection.
The Condor Legion was a German military unit that fought alongside the Spanish nationalists in the Spanish Civil War of 1936 to 1939. It became known mainly for its air force detachment that used the conflict to develop new bombing tactics. These were then widely used during the Second World War.
The ground unit was known as Gruppe Imker (Group Beekeeper), and the Panzer units of Gruppe Imker were known as Gruppe Drohne (Group Drone).
Due to supply problems and a lack of regulations, many variations of the uniform parts of Legion Condor are known to exist.
Junior ranks, including Junior NCOs and Enlisted Men, wore a smooth and blank silver-coloured buckle on a dark brown leather belt.
