History

The so-called “Swallows’ Nests”, also known as Musicians’ Wings, were worn by military musicians, one on each shoulder. They were removable and held by five metal hooks. The colour was determined by the wearer’s branch colour.

Drum and fife musicians had dull grey braiding, while regimental bandsmen and trumpeters had bright aluminum braiding. Battalion buglers however had bright aluminum braiding too, but also wore fringes.
